Formal and informal

This lesson resource is designed to draw attention to how we use different registers in a variety of written contexts. When we use language, we make a number of different lexical and grammatical choices, depending on the context, or 'situation of usage'.

The activity on the next page is suitable for KS3-5 students. It asks students to analyse the language of two texts, and to explore their linguistic and grammatical patterns with reference to register. ,You will find the lesson activities, extension tasks and a printable lesson resource containing the two texts.
